A lot of travel bloggers are writing about their travel secrets and here’s mine.
Ask and You Shall Receive: I travelled on my own for six months and I figured that if I keep on paying my accommodation by myself I’ll ran out of money fast. I took all the guts that I have and started asking people that I met if they would like to share a room with me. That act saved me a lot of money. Not only do we share rooms, but other costs as well such as transportation cost (taxis, tuktuks etc) and it made travelling more secure because at least you have someone to look after your back even for a short period of time.
I frequently ask the hostel staff as well for discounts and more often than not, I get a discounted price for rooms and other stuff as well.
Ask for a discount, ask for a free stuff, ask for directions, and just ask. There’s no harm in trying so on your next travel, don’t forget to ask and who knows, you might get it.
Stop Over-thinking about Stuff: Our minds are full of future worries and past regrets. The more we think about the future and the past while on the road, the less we get to enjoy the present moment. Stop thinking about those stuff for awhile because you have plenty of time to do so when you get back home.
How could you ever enjoy a nice sunset at the Angkor Wat if your mind is wondering about your pending work stuff. Get those stuff cleared off your head by properly planning an efficient backup system before you leave your country.
Enjoy the present.
Be Spontaneous: Stop planning for some time and let your feet just take you wherever. Most of my memorable experiences weren’t planned at all.
The joy of surprising yourself is immeasurable. And I’ll assure you that the moments that would happen during an unplanned travel decision will last you a lifetime.
How about you? What are your travel secrets?

I like the 2nd point: Stop Over-thinking about Stuff. Reminds me of someone. hehe I wish I can do that too, I'm trying soo hard. I am spontaneous, kaya madalas maaksidente at maligaw. haha
ReplyDeletei overthink too most of the times, this is one thing that ive learned when i traveled...
ReplyDeletehaha you'll never get lost if you dont have a fix destination, dont worry much about it :-)
Mine is don't be afraid to get lost! I met some pretty interesting individuals and found the best stores when I got lost. Of course, that doesn't stop me from over analyzing and practically memorizing the maps before I leave!
ReplyDeleteworth a try to do that first tip, ask ask ask :D
ReplyDelete@nina: oh yeah that too... thanks for the additional input
ReplyDelete@shie: yeah, i was able to saved alot just by asking
keep on travelling :-)
Love the first tip - far cheaper and safer to meet up w/others and share costs and experiences! Glad you sucked it up and had the gumption to ask others -trips are a lot more fun that way too :-)
ReplyDelete@shannon: yeah, i was so shy at first but then i thought that i really wouldnt last that long if i wouldnt share the cost with others. :-)
ReplyDeletehey flip,
ReplyDeletei think probably the best secret i can share to everyone is just to relax! you missed your bus, so what? you lost a few hundreds, so what? you lost your way home in the middle of the night in the middle of the jungle, so what?
take it all in, sure there are times when things get worse, but that's part of the trip as well as the bliss of exploring unknown territory. in the first place, for independent travelers if you want a hassle free trip... book a tour instead. people are different, the funny thing is the most memorable moments are always when i'm in trouble, random spur of the moment action and when unbelievable things happen to me like missing the only ferry boat for the day. oh well!
nice post flip! i'm back loved reading all your new entries!!! =)
@jerik: i agree... just relax.... the spur of the moments thing gave me memories that will lasts a lifetime... welcome back jerik.
ReplyDeleteI like it "Be Spontaneous". When you take decision of traveling instant it creates adventure in my mind and I very excited to travel. www.travelamerica360.com
ReplyDelete@donna: definitely... spontaneity brings out the fun in all adventures :-) you've got nice blog by the way.
ReplyDeletehi flip, i found your blog just today through nina the professional hobo. im new in blogging but lucky enough to have travelled to quite a few places since 1996. i wish i started writing about my travels back then. ok enough of that haha. could you teach me how to lay out my blog its so basic. thanks a lot!
ReplyDelete@thespalmes: hi there, im also not an expert when it comes to the technicalities of a blog. here's what I did:
ReplyDelete1. check out a ready made template for blogger or wordpress (im using blogger)
2. most templates have also instructions that you can follow to edit the template
3. if i'm still confused with the instructions i contact the one who made the template
4. for other stuff like add ons and stuff like that, i check google for some resources
goodluck on blogging :-)
Wow, those secrets surely summarize the wake up call for travelers all over the world.
ReplyDeleteFor me it's really essential to let go and enjoy! After all good vibes invite good things along the travel.
